Sermons in Acts
A Covenant Community for the City: Part 2
God has blessed us abundantly and we are in turn to bless one another and to bless the city. We are to live in such a way that people observe the hope within us and ask us about it.
A Covenant Community for the City: Part 1
A healthy church is one which follows the biblical model and not merely one which exhibits sound institutional management. The early Church in Acts 2 gives us four important congregational activities to reflect upon and challenge us.
Responding to the Prophetic Word of Jesus
Jesus continues to offend the world because this baby is a prophet who calls people to repentance and obedience.
Searching for Truth: The Daily Devotion of the Christian Life
The Christian faith informs everything that we do and requires us to pursue our duties with excellence. Unified in prayer and hearing the Word obediently, Christians speak boldly and the Lord adds to our numbers those who are being saved.
The Evangelistic Calling of the Church
The announcement we make in evangelism is that the salvation and reign of Christ has broken into history.
The Apostolic Mission of the Church
The apostolic calling for the church today is that we are being sent by God into the world to accomplish His purposes. God has privileged His people to do His work. If we are an apostolic church, we're to have the face of an angel, ministering and serving one another. The gospel brings the light of forgiveness of sins, and it also changes hearts and so it changes social orders. The gospel has made conquest of individuals and nations; it has given life to dead churches; it has revolutionized continents. It liberates captives.
Rome at Last and The Victory of the Gospel
Paul spoke to the Jewish leaders of the Hope of Israel: the Kingdom of God manifested in the resurrection of Christ. As with all Paul's preaching to the Jews, some believed the message of faith in Jesus and others did not (Acts 28:24). God's Word cannot be put under arrest. Likewise the gospel in our time will ultimately succeed. Acts ends with the gospel witness spreading from Rome, and today the power of the gospel is operative in Toronto.
Paul Before Felix
The gospel ministry is the most exciting adventure you could devote your life to.
Paul’s Defence in Jerusalem
We must not be hasty or presumptuous when listening for God's call for our lives.
Paul and Power Encounter
The church must recognize spiritual battle if we are to see evangelism advance in our day. Paul was anointed by God, such that he was recognized by both heaven and by hell. We need a revival in Toronto based on the Word of God.
Paul in Athens
Confronted with intellectual pluralism, idolatry, and biblical illiteracy, Paul was neither naive nor obscurantist. He was equipped in worldly learning, and he was able to proclaim God's Word powerfully.
The Council of Jerusalem: Preserving the Gospel
In Acts 15, we see a conflict of authority and a conflict of doctrine. We live in a lawless age in which Christians reject authority. Acting in Jesus' name without the blessing of the church is dangerous.
