All wickedness will be eradicated by the wisdom and Spirit of God. The kingship of Jesus breaks into history, transforming and restoring everything fallen.
It was with finality and authorty that God spoke to us by His Son. Old Testament prophecy culminated with the birth of a child who changed everything. With Christ's cradle, grave and resurrection everything is being recreated.
Every pagan empire — past, present and future — will fall and be replaced by Christ's rule.
The prophetic expectation of the Old Testament was salvation through the Messiah, the seed of the woman, and all history finally focuses in on that moment of promise to Mary. The incarnation is the great miracle of the Bible to which all previous miracles point and all that follow spring from. Christianity is the story of one grand miracle — the incursion and invasion of God into human history in the person of His Son.
Isaiah 64:1-9 is a plea for God to rend the heavens and come down to do awesome things we did not look for. It is also a confession of sin. We are unclean, our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment, and we are fading like a dead leaf. We have been in our sins a long time, and Isaiah asks, "Shall we be saved?" The Gospel is God's answer to Isaiah's plea. In Christ, God has opened the heavens and come down and done awesome things we did not look for. Christ cleanses us from our sin, clothes us in his righteousness, and gives us eternal life.
