As Ephesians comes to a close, Paul brings us as Christians to the realization that in all of these things that he's spoken about we are in a spiritual battle.
Chariots of Fire
Christians must not give in to the temptation to despair in the face of loud, high-profile opposition to God and the Christian faith. The same is true for us as it was with Elisha, that the sovereign Lord is on the throne, and “those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kgs. 6:16).
The Meaning of Deliverance
Contrary to modern notions, true freedom is not the casting off of all restraint, but freedom from the power of sin.
Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before Him. The most mature Christians have often suffered greatly and yet experience great joy. The Comforter helps us and guides us in our persecution. Persecution cements the truth together with the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.
Wisdom is to face trials with steadfast faithfulness. In the biblical view, wisdom comes not from man's abstract reflection, but through God's word and the trials He sends.
