Sermons in Marriage

The account of David and Bathsheba is familiar; however, we must feel the weight of David’s sin. What he did was evil in the eyes of the Lord. The same sin is crouching at our door. Only Christ can save us from our sins.

This passage teaches us about the goodness of marriage. In particular, marriage is good because it is intimate and it is permanent.

Marriage is rooted in God's creation norms; in a world tainted by sin Jesus calls us to be faithful in marriage, persevering through challenges.

God calls us to nurture godly marriages, relationships, families, and communities that we might glorify God and fulfill His kingdom purposes for our lives.

God created woman distinct from the rib of man; yet man and woman are interdependent, and created to be in covenant with God and one another in marriage.

In the joyful reciprocity within Christian marriage, the beauty and power of the gospel is made manifest to the world.

God’s purpose for human relationships is for sexual purity before marriage and fidelity within marriage.

Marriage is used throughout Scripture as a picture of the relationship between God and His people, Christ and the Church, and even a picture of the relationships within the Trinity. In marriage, there is a deep unity possible between a man and a woman which is so radical and profound that what results is described as a new creation. This deep unity requires self-abandonment and submission.
